Fermenting rice with Monascus purpureus produces a family of compounds called monacolins. One of them, monacolin K, is chemically identical to lovastatin — a prescription medication.

So what does that mean for you

A bottle that does not state its monacolin K content could contain almost none, or a dose that interacts with your prescription. Our label states it per serving. Read it, and know your number.

Because monacolin K is in the same pharmacological family as a statin, do not combine this with a statin, with a fibrate, or with medicines metabolised by the same liver enzymes, without your doctor's knowledge. Grapefruit and this bottle do not mix either.

Pregnant or breastfeeding — no. Not this ingredient.

Why CoQ10 is in it

Not decoration. Statin-family activity reduces the body's CoQ10, so CoQ10 is the standard companion to this ingredient in the literature, and it is fat-soluble — which is why this is an oil-based liquid drop rather than a dry tablet that passes through you unabsorbed.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
